"Application Windows" means all windows in the front-most application. The exclusion of hidden windows may be a bug or a feature, depending on your point of view. The choices are "All Windows", "Application Windows", and "Desktop." (In case this doesn't go without saying, all windows continue to update as usual during and after the transformation process.) The three different modes of Exposé determine which windows will participate in the rearrangement process at any given time. When activated, Exposé shrinks and rearranges (if necessary) windows on the screen in such a way that the windows do not overlap at all. Exposé has three modes, all of which share a common mechanism. Following Apple's recent Gallic naming trend, it's called Exposé. Panther includes a new window management feature that effectively increases the size of your screen by shrinking all of your windows temporarily.
